If you were to make a list of the topics most commonly addressed by pastors, marital sex might not rank very high on the list. According to one pastor, however, it’s precisely what more Christian couples need to talk about. A bestselling author as well as the pastor of Fellowship Church in Texas, Ed Young, Jr. has become concerned about the effect that a “dim view of sex” is having on our marriages. That’s why he has unveiled a new book that challenges readers to take part in a Sexperiment.
Ed Young: What’s Sex Good For, Anyway?
According to Ed Young, Jr., many in the Christian community have gotten sex all wrong. The “dim view of sex” that he thinks many Christians have is the view that sex is something dirty or trashy, or else just frivolous. “We acknowledge that sex is vital for procreation, but how many of us admit that it is also essential for happy marriages?” asks Ed Young.
His own answer to the question is that sex is not just essential for healthy marriages, but even for healthy understanding of who we are as people. Ed Young says, “Intimacy is important for giving us good communication and oneness with our spouse. But that’s not all sex is good for.” Ed Young, Jr. continues by noting that sex is “a key tool for helping us understand ourselves in light of our Creator.”
Ed Young, Jr. Unveils the Sexperiment
Ed Young hopes to restore the Christian community to a healthy view of sex with his new book, Sexpriment. A prominent pastor as well as a popular TV evangelist, Ed Young has written 13 books. Sexperiment may well prove closest to his heart, however. According to Ed Young, Jr., it provides a vital blueprint for creating happy and healthy marriage relationships.
Ed Young’s Challenge is for Christian Couples
What Sexperiment is, at its heart, is a challenge—one intended for married Christian couples. The challenge is simple. Ed Young and wife Lisa, who co-authored the book, challenge couples to have sex together every day. Couples are encouraged to keep up this pattern for a full week and see what a difference it makes.
“Having daily sex might seem a very minor thing,” Ed Young, Jr. notes. “The effect it can have on a marriage is immense, however.” Ed Young says the effect will enhance a couple’s level of communication, help them feel more united, and ultimately show them God’s view of marriage.
Ed Young: Challenge Accepted?
Ed Young hopes that Christian couples will consider taking the Sexperiment challenge. However, it is not just for married couples. It is also for the entire church body. The pastor says the book is an excellent study guide for churches seeking to come into a greater corporate understanding of how the Bible views sex.
